About

Established in 2020 Bloom Pottery’s objective was to make a spacious and well-equipped studio for ceramic artists, further the exploration of ceramics, teach the craft of pottery and create a flourishing clay community.

With a combined experience of over 75 years of experience our monitors teach Classes and oversee Open Studios.

Monitors/Teachers: Penelope Dews, Tina Guerra, Jane Street, Jeff Nagel, Caroline Chanthaporn, Megan Montgomery, and Stephanie Friedman.

Penelope Dews

Penelope Dews, Director and Educator, has been making ceramic sculpture for 35 years, and teaching ceramics for 30+. Her Sculptures are primarily of animals and some natural forms such as shells and seed pods, built in a modified coil process. Multiple Glaze Techniques are used on the surfaces.

6 week classes are for Begginning to Intermediate students, 3 day workshops include Sculpture and Surface Decoration and 4 week classes are for developing advanced skills.

A graduate of the San Francisco Art Institute with a BFA in Ceramic Sculpture she is a fifth generation from Southern Oregon.

Jane Street

Jane participated as a member of the Ashland Art Center for 8 years. She took throwing classes and several other classes for glazing, slab work, and other specialized clay work. Jane loves to experiment with different forms, throwing plates, and using various surface treatments. She enjoys painting plates with natural themes.

Jane loves running Open Studios at Bloom Pottery!

Tina Guerra

Tina Guerra, teacher and social media coordinator, is a California native who began her career in pottery in 2017. After studying ceramics at Humboldt State University, she earned a bachelors degree in art education.

Tina has a strong background in painting which fueled her love of glazing. She specializes in underglaze & sgraffito techniques. Throughout Tina’s portfolio there is a pattern of wheel thrown pots, whimsical glazing & bunnies

Stephanie Friedman

Stephanie Friedman, founder of Bloom Pottery, has been working in clay since 1995, and teaching pottery classes since 2000.

She studied ceramics at the Oregon College of Art and Craft in Portland, OR, and SOU in Ashland, Oregon. Now living and making pottery in New York, Stephanie visits Bloom now and then to teach.
